Nikolaj Birkelund graduated as an electronic technician in 2007, shortly after which he founded his own business, LEDdesign.
In December 2009 Nikolaj was offered a position as a Lighting Designer for COWI, a large engineering company based in Copenhagen. During his 4-year employment at COWI Nikolaj successfully realised a large number of lighting design projects, both in Denmark as well as in the UK and Scandinavia.
Nikolaj is the founder and owner of Fortheloveoflight
Fortheloveoflight wants to explore the possibilities within architectural lighting design. Our aim is to create welcoming and desirable lighting solutions that are both energy efficient and always compliment the architecture in a fresh, inventive and playful way.
Lighting is a strong communicator, and has the ability to be shaped, concealed and controlled in ways that accentuate the beauty of architecture.
We believe lighting should inspire and tell a story. Whether it is the architecture, design, or a brand strategy, there is always a story to be told.
At fortheloveoflight it is the combination of curiosity, knowledge and passion for lighting, architecture and design that forms our foundation and core values.
At fortheloveoflight we know lighting is a very personal thing, and therefore believe that lighting should not be measured in lux, but visually viewed and reviewed until the desired results are achieved.
On projects we always strive to innovate products and ourselves in order to take the design to a new level. This is achieved through close collaboration, communication, 3D sketching and mock-ups to ensure that both we, and our clients have a clear and common vision for the project throughout the process.
To ensure optimal communication between us and our client we suggest to be a part of the team in your environment. This will ensure close collaboration and a flowing dialog between the design team and benefit the project positively. We believe, having a common frame of reference and approval from the entire design team is the key to a successful project.
